Long Time No Blog...

Dear readers, first and foremost I want to apologize profusely for going MIA!  I've received multiple emails, tweets, and comments inquiring about my well-being, and every single one honestly makes me feel so touched... so a warm and appreciative thanks to all those who wrote to or thought of me.

Basically, this happened...

And I found myself suffering from terrible morning sickness which left me no will to do anything but sprawl on the couch and try not to throw up.  Fortunately that eased up in my second trimester, but now I'm insanely busy studying for my board exam, working on another resident lecture, and applying for fellowship all at the same time.  Hence no time for some blog love... not to mention I've been on the longest unintentional shopping break ever since I didn't want to buy new clothes that I may or may not fit into post-pregnancy.

I actually haven't had to purchase a single maternity item yet despite being 23 weeks pregnant.  I still fit in my scrubs for work and have been doing okay with my current wardrobe otherwise (which goes to show how ill-fitting my clothes were to begin with).  For example, the LOFT top I wore for the first PFC can still comfortably accommodate my 6-month pregnant belly:

In fact, I can still fit into almost all my tops.  And as for bottoms, my lifesaver has been the Bellyband - a somewhat magical contraption that allows me to wear a lot of my existing pants and skirts, albeit unbuttoned but without fear of indecent exposure.

In any case, I just wanted to finally post an update to let you guys know that I am indeed still alive.  But between residency and pregnancy, there already isn't enough hours in the day and sadly blogging has to be put on a hiatus for now.  But I'll leave you with a quick 10-sec peek at my 'lil bun in the oven... I've been scanning myself when I get a chance (free access to ultrasound is one of the few perks of being a radiology resident), and happened to catch the little one in a fit of hiccups!

P.S. The answer to the question everyone always wants to know (boy vs. girl) is at the end of the video :)

I adore the hiccup video and like yourself, I've had no problem fitting into my old clothes! Just at the beginning of the week, my jeans started to feel too snug! Time to grab a BellyBand!

  30. I was wondering why you were MIA! Now I know. :) Congratulations!!

  31. Congrats!!!! I used to follow your blog and wondered where you went! You don't have any time now, you think? Just wait until the LO arrives.....

I am not as small as you but I had similar experiences during in adventures as a petite pregnant woman last fall & winter. I too ended up not needed maternity clothes - finally, I could wear clothes off the rack! Except the chests would invariably be too low. I just wore a lot of tank tops underneath to avoid a free show.

I highly recommend the "chemise" matte jersey dresses from White House Black Market when you start getting a little bigger. They have one every season and you can get one for about $30on sale. Size XXS fit everywhere and stretched over my belly while I was 7, 8 and 9 months and it was a perfect postpartum dress as well because it didn't stretch out. In fact, I am wearing it today. Wait for a sale, obviously....

  32. I also recommend these Jones New York camisoles...you can get them at Macys and they are eligible for coupons (I got a bunch for $15 each). I wore them every day after month 6.

  36. Hey Liane!! Congratulations on your girl!!

I am sorry to hear that you were experiencing so much pain during your first trimester. :(

Thanks for the update! Can't wait to see more pictures! :)

  37. Aah! Congrats!! I've never posted here before but I started watching your blog towards the end of winter. I was wondering where you went!

You're actually just one week behind me -- I'm 24 weeks pregnant and also still wearing most of my usual clothes, though I can't say I fit into absolutely everything. I adore my BellaBand. I've started picking up little things here and there, but most of my "maternity" is just petite stuff with a little stretch or empire cut or that sort of thing. One of my favorite looks for work is just a simple stretchy tank top under a jacket with some nice accessories. Gap maternity just had a big sale (promo code on sale merchandise!), so I'm crossing my fingers while I wait for a few XS basics to arrive. They don't make petite maternity, but they seem to run a little smaller than most other maternity wear I've seen.

Anyway. Best of luck! Don't forget to rest, eat and stay healthy. So excited to hear your news!!

  38. Awww congratulations!!! I cannot believe on top of being pregnant, you are working, studying, and doing a residency! Talk about super woman/mom already! =)

  40. Congratulations! Missed your posts!

Remember to take care of yourself despite busy work life!! :)

  41. Congratulations! You've prob heard this before but it's true - stock up on sleep now. You are so petite that you may be able to get away with wearing looser but non-maternity clothes (I did). The only maternity clothes I had to buy were: jean shorts and pants with elastic belly. That's it! Everything else were given to me by people who were size 8 or 10 (mostly dresses which were so comfortable).

  42. CONGRATULATIONS Liane!! You look amazing in that LOFT top :) I have heard such great things about the BellyBand - definitely noting that for when my time comes (or I eat waaay too much at a buffet or something) :) SO happy for you!!!

  43. Congratulations!! What an amazing reason to NOT blog :) Hope everything is going well!!

  44. That video is magical. Congratulations!! My mother always tells me she's so glad she had a girl because we are the best shopping companions.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wow, you are SO lucky!! I'm 15 weeks along and am already wearing maternity pants mostly because my jeans were all low-rise and they doesn't bode well for my body any more.

I'm so excited for you! I hope you'll update us on your maternity wear!

  46. I am so late but congratulations...big Congrats. Have been wondering if you decided to quit blogging due to busy schedules. So excited for you, take care and get some rests while you can because you wont know that word anymore ;)

  47. CONGRATS! I'm not sure if you're purchasing up a storm in baby gear, but my sister-in-law is a petite woman (4'11), and a relative from Korea sent her this Korean baby carrier, and she really loves it because it fits a smaller Asian woman better than any American alternatives that she's tried. Anyhow, it might be worth checking out Pognae USA. I don't think they officially launch in the US until Sept. 6, but you can log on to their site with code trypognae.

  48. Congratulations or as we say in my family Mabrook or Mazel Tov! I'm so excited for you and your husband. You will be great parents. We've missed you on the blog though. Hope you and your beautiful baby girl are healthy and you have an easy remainder of pregnancy and delivery.
